Get in the Game: College Applications

College Applications

The best way to prepare for college begins with identifying the type of degree programs that may interest you. It also begins with asking yourself a few questions. For example, do you want to be a cyber-security specialist or a nurse? How many years of education will it require? Is this the type of work I want to do five years after I graduate from college?

The excitement about your next educational endeavor may be overshadowed by mounds of paper known as college applications that you need to fill out.

Some encourage students to apply to a large number of colleges to ensure they get into several with scholarship opportunities. You may want to keep the list of college applications down to a manageable size based on  universities that have similar academic programs that interest you.

Your application package will also need to include things that make you stand out from other applicants such as extracurricular activities, volunteer work, recent transcripts and paid jobs.  Highlight your strengths in your college application essay and include a list of references too.

Also, determine if the institution(s) that interests you provides an early acceptance notification as well. This will help you plan the review, completion and submission of your college applications in a timely manner.
